Hood River is a diverse town located on the Scenic Columbia River Gorge just 60 miles east of Portland. While many of the people living here have deep family roots in the region, with many being third and fourth generation farmers and loggers, most of the population is now made up of newer faces drawn by the outstanding outdoor recreation offered here. Windsurfing, kitesurfing, skiing, fishing, boating, cycling, mountaineering, and hiking are just a few of the many pastimes that can be enjoyed a mere 20 minutes or less from town.

Along with the modest population growth has come development. New neighborhoods, retail industry, commercial industry, and recreation lodging have pushed up like daisies in the spring. Fortunately the natural geographic boundaries of the Hood River Valley and the immense tracts of private land have not allowed for change that detracts from the charm and beauty of the town. It still is a wonderful place to live and raise a family without giving up the access to the outdoors.
