Mountain Biking Hood River

Mountain Biking Hood River

Some may not think of the Columbia Gorge as a mountain bike destination unlike the popular water sports like kite-boarding and windsurfing which are world renown. However, Hood River has some of the best single track trails in Oregon.

Possibly the most well known (and certainly the busiest trail system) is Post Canyon. Post Canyon is located the closest to Interstate 84 with access from West Cliff Dr. This elaborate trail system has grown up over the years and now offers numerous single track loops and some intense downhill tracks and trials courses that crisscross several drainages and streams.   If you are looking for something drier, try the east hills trails including the ‘whoops' trail and 15 mile creek.  These are excellent smooth single track that allows you to let the wheels spin.  Or maybe you want a true ‘work/reward' ride.  If that's so then go across the river and ride ‘Hospital Hill'.  This comes with serious 1200' elevation gain followed by a fast decent of the same amount.

Epic rides also exist here.  The Surveyor's Ridge trail is 13 miles of advanced technical riding that can be ridden out and back or done as a shuttle.  13 miles may not seem like much, but it really is challenging and will test even the most experienced rider.

Other trails include Dog River Trail, East Fork Trail, Gunsite Trail, and many other single and double track rides.  The sum of all this is more riding than visitors can do in a full week.  Our advice is to make several trips into the area and blend your rides with some of the many other activities that Hood River has to offer.
