Hood River valley and the surrounding area are slowly becoming a recognized wine country with vintners and wineries spread out along the Columbia gorge. Many of these wineries and tasting rooms can be located along the fruit loop; a 45-mile tour through scenic Hood River valley. One example is Wy'East Vineyards located on highway 35 has a tasting room and large outside deck overlooking the eastern valley of Hood River.
Another is the White House tasting Room also located along highway 35, features 31 different wines to choose from all in one room. This is a beautiful colonial home on the national historic register. A small fruit stand featuring there own pears grown at the site, local cheeses and amazing fresh flowers you can cut yourself and take home.
If you choose to venture beyond Hood River, There are several wonderful wineries with tasting rooms on the other side of the Columbia River. Lyle Washington is located 10 miles east of Hood River across the Columbia River. Canyon River, Cor Cellars, Illusions, Domaine Pierre Noire, McCormick Family, Syncline and Jacob Williams wineries are all within 2 to 5 miles of each other. Syncline makes red wines from the Rhone valley, while McCormick Family Vineyards uses some of their own grapes to produce "food wines" with two different labels; Memaloose and Maestrale wines. All this and breathtaking views of the Columbia River Gorge and Mt Hood.
Klickitat Canyon winery, a small family vineyard on the Lyle-Snowden road touts non-sulfite wines made from local grapes exclusively from the Columbia Gorge. Jacob Williams wineries (located on highway 14 in Lyle) makes hand craft limited quantity wines along the banks of the River.
